On Day 5 We Docked in Prince Rupert Canada

Prince Rupert, Canada

Like the areas in Alaska, Prince Rupert B.C. is a beautiful place surrounded by wildlife and fantastic scenery. Some of the cruisers were disappointed by the town itself, however, there were many sites to see outside the downtown area.

Deer in Prince Rupert

Driving through Prince Rupert we saw these residents strolling through town.

There were many activities available on Prince Rupert. Among the shore excursions offered were Kayaking, Fishing, Crabbing, Hiking the rain forest, biking and a Grizzly watch tour. Downtown was a little less commercialized than Skagway and Juneau, but it served the purpose for us.

We had purchased so many souvenirs in the other ports that we had to buy another suitcase to carry them all. We ended up at the thrift store in Prince Rupert and scored a nice piece of Samonsonite luggage for $3.50. Also, I needed a dinner jacket since we were surprised the evening before with an invitation to dine with the captain. I ended up getting a nice dinner coat for about $2.50 from the thrift store.

We ended up renting a car again and traveled to the Butze Rain Forest for a hike. Many of the cruisers took the bus tour there, and we met up with many of them during our 3 mile hike. I was fortunate enough to see a bald eagle fly very close to where we were walking, but I did not have my camera ready so I missed the shot..:-(

Butze Rain Forest

The Path leading to the Butze Rain Forest

It didn't rain at all in the forest, it was a nice cool hike as the temperature stayed in the low 50's the entire trip.

Butze Inlet

Here is a picture of the inlet at the Butze Rain Forest

The picture above was taken from a lookout point during the hike. Supposedly, the tides reverse direction in this area of the water during the tide change. I didn't really see or understand what that was all about, but the scenery and the wildlife in the area was fantastic.

Prince Rupert Air Tours

There were also air excursions for those who like the view from above.
